The Canning Kitchen - Pre-sale Announcement

There it is. The Cover. My cookbook has a face.

In just a few months this book will officially be a real thing. I mean, it's real now. To me. But on June 9th, 2015, The Canning Kitchen: 101 Simple Small Batch Recipes will be real to, well, people beyond the friends and family who have been here with me every step of the way. It'll be on real book shelves in real book stores and in real kitchens.

After pouring so much of myself into creating this book, I'm happy to tell you it is now available for pre-order! You can buy your copy now and it will be sent to you once it is released by Penguin Canada on June 9th.

AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER AT:

The Canning Kitchen blends the traditions of home preserving with the tastes of the modern home cook. You'll find 101 recipes for classics like Strawberry Rhubarb Jam and Crunchy Dill Pickles, plus recipes for delicious new classics like Salted Caramel Pear Butter and Bing Cherry Barbecue Sauce. In addition to the recipes, you'll find simple instructions on the basics of water bath canning.

Agreeing to write a canning book felt like a huge commitment in the beginning. It was undeniably the largest project I had ever taken on. There I was, a mom of two young kids at home with a food blog on the side, and this book deal just fell in my lap. I remembered someone once saying to me you say yes to a good opportunity when it comes along, then figure out later how to make it happen. And that's just what I did. I said yes and got to work. For 10 months I was recipe developer, writer, food stylist, photographer, prop shopper and ingredient finder. I worked alone with the goal of creating a book that lived up to the one in my imagination.

I thought perhaps my love of canning would fade with the intensity of the work. But as the jars piled up, my love of canning remained true. I think that says a lot about the usefulness and appeal of preserving, and over the next few months I want to share some personal photo stories of the timeless beauty of home canning to convince you, if you're not already doing it, to make this the summer you make your kitchen a canning kitchen.
