I also added 1 cup of each of the cheeses for the top layer. I baked it at 400 degrees for 45 minutes. I used the blend and the cheese sauce was very bland. It didn't have hardly any cheese taste whatsoever. My entire family complained that the sauce had no taste. Which was a huge bummer because this was made for Easter dinner. So go with a medium or mild cheddar cheese. And I felt like something else was missing. Salt! I salted my potatoes because I felt like this recipe needed a little salt and pepper but the sauce needed a salt too. I dislike hearing that, but I'm sure not as much as you dislike having firm potatoes for dinner! The pan size might have indeed played a part in the problem - spreading the potatoes out in a larger pan would mean they're not immersed and boiling in the sauce to cook thoroughly. By the time you take them out of the oven, they should be boiling and blipping away in the sauce. Also, whole milk is pretty important here as it has more than twice as much fat as 2% milk, but not as important as the pan size. So, again, truly sorry to hear it didn't work out. This is one of my favourite side dishes in my house!Amy Broneehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02138730885510157394noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6272873112364234651.post-6635241642852744072015-01-29T09:28:09.446-08:002015-01-29T09:28:09.446-08:00Help ! Not sure exactly what I did wrong. My 9x9 pan was being used, so I used 9x13 pan ( maybe that was the problem ? ) I sliced the potatoes paper thin, and after an hour and 10 minutes, they still weren't cooked. The top was way to brown, should cover with foil for the first half hour. The sauce was all dried up, not creamy what so ever..... Could it have been the larger size pan ? Also, I never buy whole milk, and used 2 %. Feed back please.
